"Sherlock Holmes"

Arthur Conan Doyle

No doubt the most famous detective who never lived, Sherlock Holmes remains an endlessly thrilling read. No matter where you start—A Study in Scarlet, The Hound of the Baskervilles, or a short story like The Adventure of the Speckled Band—Arthur Conan Doyle keeps you entertained from start to finish.

I'm partial to mystery and thriller novels, and Holmes stories deliver that slow-burn pacing in all the best ways.  While some mysteries give away the ending too early, and others hide it too well, Holmes stories hit that sweet spot where you can play detective alongside him.

Take "The Adventure of the Dancing Men", from The Return of Sherlock Holmes. The coded message is laid out clearly in the text. You can let Holmes do the work, or try cracking it yourself. Either way, it’s clever and satisfying.

If you’re a mystery fan, I’d be surprised if you haven’t read these. But if, somehow, they’ve slipped past you—fix that. I used to read one story a night before bed... until I picked up The Hound of the Baskervilles and found myself wide awake far too late into the early morning.

Absolutely kept me up way too late—these mysteries are addictive!

A lighter, easy-to-savor read that’s classic and enjoyable without feeling too heavy.
